The citizen delegation from the Kariya International Friendship Association will arrive in Mississauga on July 6, 2016 for another jam packed week of fun. A big thank you to those who will host a delegate and volunteer to prepare for their visit. Below is an itinerary that indicates events open to all members with the costs for non-hosts. Please RSVP to Maria or Stephanie (email@example.com) if you plan to attend any of these events. Councillor Ron Star will once again host our farewell party which is one of the best events of the year, so please come!
Mayor Takanaka and three delegates arrived in Mississauga on June 29th for a whirlwind visit of only 5 days. They will visit a number of Toyota related companies in Mississauga, take part in a gift exchange, dinner with Mayor Crombie and are participating in the Canada day celebrations in both Port Credit and Celebration Square. Saturday, July 2 they will unwind with a wine tour and dinner. The dinner will take place at Aristotle’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant. It is hoped that many MFA members will be able to join in the dinner .
Mississauga Friendship Association member Jenny recently spent an afternoon with the Kariya International Friendship Association. Jenny was a special guest at a KIFA event entitled “Lets Make Maple Cookies for Kids”. She helped the children make maple cookies. They also read an English language children’s story about Maple Syrup. It looks like the kids had a great time!
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie recently visited Japan for a Japanese Investment Mission. She was able to include a visit to Mississuaga’s sister city Kariya in her busy itinerary.
Mayor Crombie toured Denso, met with Kariya’s Mayor Takanaka, attended official events, visited Mississauga Park, spoke at the Kariya International Friendship Association (KIFA) annual general meeting and enjoyed a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. You can read about Mayor Crombie’s time in Nagoya and Kariya in her official blog.
We are happy to report that Mississauga Friendship Association Board Member Marcelino “Frost” DaCosta’s trip to Japan coincided with Mayor Crombie’s visit. As a result, he was able to connect with Mayor Crombie while she was in Kariya.
Mayor Crombie’s visit demonstrates her support of the twinning program between Mississauga and Kariya and assists the MFA in our role to foster the relationship between our citizens.
